Medicaid Funding Critical To Primary and Behavioral Health in Arizona

April 11, 2025 – At Denova Collaborative Health, we witness every day how Medicaid/AHCCCS funding supports Arizonans’ access to essential healthcare services, particularly in primary care and behavioral health. As an organization committed to connecting underserved communities with much-needed healthcare, we call upon Arizona’s Congressional delegation and all stakeholders to recognize the fundamental importance of Medicaid and protect its funding.

For the two million Arizonans – including one-third of the state’s children – who rely on AHCCCS for their healthcare, this funding underpins the primary care system, serving as a gateway to preventive care and chronic disease management. It keeps individuals and families healthier, reducing costly emergency interventions. Any decrease in Medicaid support would directly threaten this foundational level of care, significantly curtailing the ability of health providers across Arizona to provide timely, quality medical attention to those most in need.

In behavioral health, especially, AHCCCS stands as the primary financial support for services that address our state’s growing mental health crisis. From adolescents coping with anxiety and depression, to new mothers facing postpartum mental health challenges, and individuals battling substance use disorders – Medicaid’s support is critical. It ensures access to timely intervention and consistent treatment, allowing people to recover, maintain their well-being and lead productive lives.

Cuts to Medicaid funding not only will reduce access to necessary care, but also increase healthcare disparities, exacerbate existing challenges in our mental health system and weaken the community networks vital to public health.

We strongly encourage a steadfast commitment to preserving the funds that drive this essential program, ensuring sustained and equitable healthcare access for all Arizonans.

Denova Collaborative Health remains dedicated to working alongside our community and partners in efforts that protect and strengthen Medicaid, reinforcing our shared commitment to a healthier Arizona.
