Whenever I try to update an application, the update times out before it finishes getting the update.

The most common reason you can't receive an update is because there are large files that need to be downloaded and your connection to the update site is too slow. This happens most often if you have a dial-up connection, but it can also occur if the website is overloaded.

First, make a copy of the file called update.control. The file is located in the JExpress subdirectory of the directory where you installed the application.

Using a plain text editor, like Notepad, open update.control. Move to the bottom of the file and add the following line:

Your system will now allow more time for each file to be downloaded. If that doesn't resolve the challenge, then try increasing the time from 30 to 60. Remember to let the system have plenty of time to complete the update.

Important: Do not change anything else in the update.control file or you could prevent the updater from working at all. If the updater stops working, then restore the update.control file and contact your vendor for assistance.
